Observation and environment, lasers and their applications Research unit Science for a changing planet

The Observatory of Lille is an astronomical center dedicated to teaching, dissemination of knowledge and research. Our research field is celestial mechanics and dynamical planetology. From the analysis of observations, we model the motion of astronomical objects using analytical theories and numerical computation. Our group is part of the Pégase team (Planetology environments from ground-based astrometry and space exploration) of the IMCCE of the Observatory of Paris.

The Observatory offers a sky observation service for students and staff of the University of Lille.

The Observatory possesses numerous scientific instruments and a rich library. Among these instruments, the most emblematic is the large astronomical telescope of 32 centimeters in diameter and 6 meters of focal length. We also possess two theodolites of different periods, a siderostat of the end of the 19th century, astronomical clocks, the wire micrometer of Robert Jonckheere, a spectograph, and a station of radiodetection of meteors.
