History, Archaeology and Literature of the Ancient Worlds

HALMA | UMR 8164
Humanities and social sciences Research unit Culture, societies, changing practices

As a multidisciplinary team, our research group closely associates archaeologists, historians, philologists and specialists of ancient cultures. Our field of research extends over a vast chronological period, from prehistory to the latest Antiquity. The geographical area covered by our studies encompasses the Mediterranean basin and Northern Europe, with a strong focus on the Hauts-de-France region, and extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Middle East. HALMA currently brings together researchers, lecturers and specialists in archaeology, heritage and culture of the Hauts-de-France region. Its international influence is based on numerous collaborations with French scientific institutions abroad, on an extensive network of European and North American partner universities, as well as on an excellent integration into the regional archaeology, heritage, and culture community. HALMA thus benefits from a privileged regional, national, and international positioning.
